Art Exhibition

Consistent with the objectives of the Society to address societal issues where legal and healthcare professionals can play a role in bringing about change and creating awareness, the Medico-Legal Society of Malaysia (MLSM) is pleased to present a unique art exhibition that is held in conjunction with this year’s Regional Medico-legal Conference.

MLSM recognizes that there is a need for better awareness and understanding of mental health illness. Overcoming the stigma that may be attached to mental health illness is a critical step. This can be done through positive engagements about, and increased exposure to, types of mental health conditions and problems, and what such problems mean to the sufferer.

ART IN MIND includes a collection of creative expressions by several young talents who are on their own personal journeys in combating mental illness. These talents have produced various pieces of artwork that are not limited to visual art, but literary and music works, some of which represent personal creative interpretations of their mental state. The exhibition will also cover a collection of artwork by professional Malaysian artists which depict artwork relating to mental health issues.

The exhibition offers a unique opportunity for the viewer to connect with the artists’ thoughts and feelings. MLSM is hopeful that this engagement will encourage and trigger important discussions on how laws relating to mental health and the needs and interest of a vulnerable group can be best protected.

We are very proud of the courage shown by the young talents who have agreed to show-case their creations. We hope that this exhibition empowers and inspires them to continue in their journey to recovery.
