Shahrul Bahyah Kamaruzzaman Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya

Professor Dr Shahrul Bahyah Kamaruzzaman is a Consultant Geriatrician at both UMMC AND UMSC. She returned to Malaysia in 2002 after her geriatric training in Cardiff, Wales, UK. Dr Shahrul served as Senior Lecturer in the geriatric unit and played a key role in the training and refining of the geriatric multidisciplinary team as well as the acute geriatric care services at UMMC. She embarked on her PhD 2006 and was awarded a PhD in Epidemiology and Population Health in July 2010. Both her training in geriatrics and epidemiology has been useful in her research activities as a founder member of the Ageing and Age Associated Disorders Research Group in University Malaya as well as the Malaysian Society of Geriatric Medicine. Dr Shahrul is also the project leader and PI of the High Impact Research group, Malaysian Elders Longitudinal Research(MELoR). Having previously held the position of Program Coordinator for Masters of Internal Medicine at UM, she is now Chair of the National Postgraduate Curriculum writIng team for Internal Medicine. Her career path has taken her from Head of the Geriatric unit to Head of Department of Medicine and her current post as Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Studies at the Faculty of Medicine, UM. All these various clinical, teaching, academic and administrative roles have helped cement her commitment to the development of clinical services, ageing research and medical education in Malaysia.
